The Raku technique, developed and perfected in Japan, creates a hand-molded, one-of-a-kind pottery vessel, fired at low heat and removed from the kiln while still hot and placed in a container filled with combustible materials. It is gorgeous outside and it’s time for leaf color, crisp apples, tasty cheeses and Traminette!  This wonderful white wine is just what you need to enjoy these Autumn days.  Soft with a little spice like its German parent Gewurztraminer, it is a taste delight.  This grape variety, now a favorite across the eastern United States and Canada, was first developed by H.C. Barret of the University of Illinois in the 1960s.  He sent this new variety to Cornell for testing and Traminette was released for vineyards in 1996.

The trees are really colorful in Cedarville and across Stephenson County.  It looks like the good weather will hold for several days so hop in your car for a trip to Famous Fossil Winery.   Pick up a bottle or two of Traminette, Fossil Rock Red or Red Raspberry.  Or enjoy wine on the deck as we celebrate the Winery’s third anniversary and the seventh year for our vineyard.

Thanks to all of you for your support and enthusiasm for our wines over the past three years.  You are what makes Famous Fossil Vineyard & Winery fun!
