Booth reservations are now being accepted for the 2010 Stephenson County Home Show to be held March 13th & 14th at the YMCA/Highland Community College Sports Complex.  Booths will be set up on March 12th.  Show hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.  The Home Show annually features area businesses including home improvements contractors, investment companies, banks, healthcare providers, communications experts, landscaping contractors, real estate and insurance agents, furniture and appliance dealers and heating and air conditioning contractors, just to name a few.

January 25-February 28, "WHAT'S NEW?" EXPO. Freeport/Stephenson County Visitors Center, 4596 US Highway 20 East, Freeport. Sunday thru Thursday: 8 am to 7 pm; Saturday and Sunday: 8 am to 8 pm. New businesses that have opened in Stephenson County in 2008 and 2009 are featured in this new Expo at the Visitors Center. Despite a challenging economic environment, a number of new businesses from banks to mom and pops to franchise businesses, have opened their doors and the Expo give a little taste of these great new local businesses. Participants will include Choice Reality, Citizens State Bank-Freeport, Slumberland, The Blue Orchid, and more. Plus several of the restaurants featured in the Expo will offer samplings of their menu on selected Saturdays from 2 to 4 pm. Heck's Frozen Meals and Deli will be featured on January 30 with cinnamon rolls, little sub sandwiches, meat balls and coffee.  O'Maddy's will offer specialties on February 6.  On February 13, from 2 pm to 4 pm, The Flamin' Grill will feature their rib tips, and from 3 pm to 5 pm on February 13, Studio 218 Salon and Spa will offer chair massages and herbology hand retexturizing. Sellnoir's Catering will be featured on February 20. On February 27, Sonic Drive In will offer samples of their special beverages and Carlson Canine Camp will present a canine demonstration. U of I Extension Program on Radon

The public is invited to the program, Help Yourself to a Healthy Home - Reduce Your Exposure to

Radon. It is sponsored by University of Illinois Extension Stephenson County. It will be held

Tuesday, January 26 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Freeport Public Library at 100 E Douglas

Street in Freeport, IL. Consumer and Family Economics Educators Evelyn Prasse of the

Rockford Extension Center and Debra Bartman of the Quad Cities Extension Center will present

the program, starting with opening activities at 1:00 p.m. Participants in the opening session

activities can enter to win a free radon test kit.

Registration is due by January 21, which can be done online, at the following website

http://web.extension.uiuc.edu/stephenson/, or contact University of Illinois Extension-

Stephenson County Unit at (815) 235-4125 for more information. There is a $5 program fee.

Participants will learn how radon enters the home, how radon causes lung cancer, how to

quickly and easily to test their home for radon. They will learn how to find licensed radon

mitigators if they want professional help to reduce the level of radon in the home. The

audience will receive informational handouts. Additional information will be available on the

radon poster contest for youth ages 9-14 and the radon video contest for high school students.
